Nottingham Forest 1988-89 Retro Football Shirt

An unremarkable season for Forest by the high standard of their successful decade with a modest 8th placed League finish and an early Third Round FA Cup exit at the hands of Crystel Palace. The League Cup brought some respite before a Fifth Round defeat at Highbury against eventual winners Arsenal.

At least the goals flowed freely for Forest throughout the season thanks to the young prodigy Nigel Clough, the veteran Gary Birtles and the midfield general Neil Webb who each contributed a respectable figure of 14 League goals. Along with Clough, more youthful talent was emerging in the team's back line Des Walker establishing himself as a central defensive fixture.
