Stoke City's ,id 80s history was a rather mixed story. Euphoria form the 1983-84 campaign when Division 1 savety was assured, turned into despair the following season as the club dropped out of the top flight.
Bill Asprey came in as manager for the second half of the 83-84 season and changed both the team's style and its fortunes.
