The much travelled Carlos Alberto Silva took over coaching duties at FC Porto for the 1991-92 season and successfully wrested the Portuguese title back from Benfica after the club had missed out narrowly the previous season.
A talented squad featured domestic star like Vitor Baia, Fernando Couto, Joao Pinto and Domingos and was strengthened by impressive contributions from foreigners like Ion Timofte and Emil Kostadinov. The club narrowly failed to record a "double" after surprisingly losing to city neighbours Boavista in the Taca de Portugal Final.
