Despite the best efforts of a world-class squad that featured such legends as Zoff, Scirea, Bettega, Causio, Gentile and Tardelli, Juventus failed to defend their Serie A title this season after being caught out by a surprise challenge from neighbours Torino. 

The bianconeri lost both of their Derby della Mole League fixtures to Torino by a two goal margin, but Carlo Parola's side still led the championship race through until the April before overtaken. Juve battled right until the last round of fixtures and it was a defeatin Perugia that finally surrendered the scudetto to their great rivals.
