The 1950's was something of a golden decade for Sevilla as they consistently battled up amongst the giants of the Spanish game. Runners up in the League in 1951 to Atlético Madrid, those heights were regularly matched in the years after the mighty Helenio Herrera arrived as coach in 1953.
With the goals of international Juan Arza propelling the team, Sevilla never finished lower than the fifth place under the Argentinian legend and earned qualification to the European Cup in 1958-59 after finishing as runners-up to holders Real Madrid.
