An eighth-placed 1978 finish in Serie A looking respectable on paper, yet the points total Roma amassed left them just three above the relegation zone. This was a season in keeping with Roma's gererally mixed fortunes during the 1970's.
This was a solid if unspectacular side based around mainstays like Paolo Conti, Sergio Santarini, Domenico Maggiora and Giancarlo De Sisti with the star quality coming from Agostino di Bartolomei- the sole player to score in double figures this season.
A nod to the future arrived this year with the debut of Franco Tancredi, a young keeper who would go on to become one of the most celebrated in the club's history.
