In the club's centenary year, the 1991-92 Division 2 campaign started poorly for Watford and when the calendar ticked over into the New Year, Steve Perryman's side sat just above the relegation zone. But this was a team full of experienced, late-careeer veterans like Peter Nicholas, Trevor Putney and former striking legend Luther Blisett and, aided by newcomers like Andy Hessenthaler, Lee Nogan and Richard Johnson, results improved dramatically in the spring.
The gritty defending of Nigel Gibbs and the goals of top scorer Blisett boosted Watford to 8 wins and wins and just a single defeat in their last 13 games, elevating the Hornets up to a respectable 10th placed League finish.
