Following promotion from the Second Division this first season back in the top flight was a succesful one. Fulham finished in 10th position which was their highest finish in history at that time, a record that stood until 2009. Young players such as Alan Mullery, and Johnny Key became regulars during a season which saw crowds often exceeding 30,000.
Johnny Haynes scored 10 goals during the season and surpassed the 100-goal milestone in a Fulham shirt. His good from earned him a recall to the England squad. The maximum wage restriction was abolished during the year and Johnny Haynes become the first L100 per week footballer.
