Having been a powerhouse of the African game in the 1960's, Ghana declined in stature over the next decade and it wasn't until the early part of the 1980's that the Black Starsbegan to restore their reputation.
A fourth African Cup of Nations title was won in 1982 with a penalty shoot-out win over the hosts, Libya. Forward George Alhassan finished as top scorer with 4 goals and the tournament saw the debut of Abedi Pele, a future Ghanianlegend in the making. Another brilliant forward in Tony Yeboah would emerge a few years later.
Ghana's coach Charles Gyamfi provided the story of the success in the tournment in both 1963 and 1965.He left after that second victory and returned 17 years later on the eve of the 1982 tournament to miraculously repeat his earlier accomplishments.
