The 1985-86 season was proved a sad one for Ipswich Town as the East Anglian club lost its top flight status for the first time since 1968. With only Paul Cooper and Terry Butcher from the early 80s golden era still part of the squad. Bobby Ferguson's team battled against the drop all season though did come very close to staying up in the end.
Their final league placing of 20th left them just a single point Leicester and Oxford who avoided the drop. Kevin Wilson was once again Town's main goal threat scoring 15 over the campaign.
