Chasing a return to Ligue 1 for the first time since 1950. Red Star's form this season never suggested that a promotion push was a genuine possibility. With the veteran ex-international striker René Bilard retiring in the summer of 1963, much of the attacking responsibility lay on the shoulders of his old partner Daniel Rodighiéro who did not disappoint.
Although Jean Avellaneda's side ended their Ligue 2 campeign in an ordinary elventh place, Rodighiéro was their star performer and earned himself a move at the end of the season to Ligue 1 with Rennes. Red Star was not far behind and would secure their own elevation to the topflight the very next season.
