Roma cast aside the disappointment of their narrow loss in the title race to bounce back two seasons later and finally become champions of Italy again, their first succes since 1942 and just a second overall.
As expected Juventus provided their main competition and while the Turin inflicted home and away defeats on Roma, they lacked the giallorossi's resoluteness and consistency. Roma lost just one other fixture all season and secured the title with two rounds remaining by defeating Avellino on the same afternoon that Juventus's hopes were ended by Inter.
The Brazilian midfielder Falcao was the driving force behind this fine teamand he was backed up by a great talent throughtout the team: the reliable Tancredi in goal, Nela, Vierchowod, and De Bartolomei near impenetrable in defence and Conti, Prohaska and Roberto Pruzzo providing skill, flair and goals in the forward positions.
