Internazionale made a mighty effort to assemble a team for the 1948-49 season that could challange the dominance of Torino. Two new attackers joined the club and immediately made an incredible impact - the Hungerian István Nyers arrived from Stade Francais and finished Serie A top scorer with 26 goals; Amedeo Amadei arrived from Roma and almost matched his teammate with 22 goals.
The prolific Inter side were indeed challenging strongly for the title until the Superga air disaster killed the entire Torino squad with four games remaining and led to them being declared champions.
