With no previous club management experience, Udo Lattek took charge of Bayern in 1970 and celebrated the first of six Bundesliga titles he would win in Munich at the end of the 1971-72 season.
To a team built around the backbone of Maier, Beckenbauer and Muller, Lattek accelerated the development of emerging new stars in Paul Breitner and Uli Hoennes to create a thrilling, attack-minded side. Bayern amassed a Bundesliga record of 101 goals during the season, 40 coming from the ridiculously prolific Gerd Müller, and scored at least 5 goals at home on seven different occasions.
