Frank Clark had the unenviable task replacing the legendary Brian Clough as Nottingham Forest Manager in 1993, but against the odds he estabilished a new team with new identity. Based around the experience of Stuart Pierce and with well-chosen additions including the Stan Collymore, Colin Cooper and Lars Bohinen, Forest were promoted to the Premier League in 1994 and finished in an excellent third place the following season
Collymore left that summer to join Liverpool, but the 1995 -96 season was still a success thanks to a fine run to the Quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. The 1996-97 season was more challenging and Clark departed with Forest in the midst of a relegation battle, one the club would eventually lose.
